POSITIVE SUPPORTS SERVICES

A team-built plan to replace challenging behaviors with real skills.

Positive Supports Services bring together clinical oversight, hands-on staff, and data-driven planning to help someone move toward greater independence – not just manage a behavior.

What Support Looks Like

Who’s Involved:

  • Positive Support Professional (PSP): Clinical oversight of the case and plan, indirectly.

  • Positive Support Analyst (PSA): Builds the plan, collects & analyzes data, trains the team — through a combination of in-person, remote, and indirect work.

  • Positive Support Specialist (PSS): Implements the plan directly with the individual, when authorized.

A man and a woman are sitting at a wooden table, engaging in a conversation with smiles. The man, wearing glasses and a brown shirt, is gesturing with his hand, while the woman, with blonde hair tied back and wearing a black sweater, is resting her chin on her hand. There is a laptop, notebook, pen, and a travel mug on the table. The background features large windows, plants, and framed pictures.

When this may be appropriate:

  • Interfering behaviors – from non-compliance to aggression – are affecting daily life.

  • The team wants a structured, data-backed plan rather than an ad hoc response.

  • Behaviors haven’t escalated to threaten housing or safety (that would require Crisis Stabilization).

The ILO Approach

Everything is data-driven – every plan and every goal looks different. We coordinate constantly across everyone on a person’s team: schools, day programs, PCAs, other providers, family. Case managers tell us this is one of the things that ILO does especially well.
